Brownie Protein Cake
Is it a brownie? Is it a cake? It's the best of both worlds.
As someone who loves all things sweet, I'm always looking for ways to enjoy dessert while staying aligned with my nutrition goals. This recipe has become my favorite alternative to traditional brownies and chocolate cake because it lands perfectly somewhere in between—rich, fudgy, moist, and incredibly satisfying.

While you're welcome to experiment with different protein powders, keep in mind that the texture and final result may vary when veering away from original recipe. My go-to choice is Legion's EGG+ Dutch Chocolate Protein Powder; it delivers a smooth, clean chocolate flavor without the clumping or strong aftertaste that can sometimes occur with other protein powders. (use discount code IRONMADEIN at checkout. With our coupon first time customers receive a BOGO 50% off and reoccuring customers get 20% cash back at checkout.) Even better, this protein bakes exceptionally well and creates a texture that's remarkably close to a traditional brownie-cake hybrid.
One of the reasons I enjoy using Legion products is their focus on quality and transparency. Their supplements are third-party tested for purity and label accuracy, and each batch is screened for contaminants such as heavy metals, microbes, allergens, and other impurities. That extra level of testing gives me confidence in the products I use in my recipes.
Now for the fun part—the recipe! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. If you make it, we'd love to see your version. Take a photo, share it on Instagram, and tag us so we can celebrate your creation!
Nutrition:
*Please note that if you use different ingredients you may have a different nutrition profile. Now mind you these slices of brownie cake are not little. We actually split ourselves one batch into 8 servings to share with friends. But if you're a dessert lover, you can easily agree these larger serving sizes are totally worth it.

With Chocolate Chips:
About 4.6 servings per batch: serving size 250g
487 kcal, 22g Protein, 73g Carbohydrates, 9.3g Fat
Ingredients:
425g Organic Pumpking Puree
200g of Kirkland Organic Non-Fat Greek Yogurt
120g of Organic Pure Cane Sugar
100g of Organic Brown Coconut Sugar
1tsp of Vanilla
87g of Flour
35g of Cocoa powder
3/4tsp of Baking soda
1/3tsp of Baking powder
3/4tsp Salt
100g No-Sugar-Added Chocolate Chips (optional, but recommended)
Recipe:
Preheat the oven to 350°F or 175-180°C and line a 10in or 25cm cake pan with parchment paper, set aside for later.
Through a sifter, sift and mix all of the dry ingredients together in a large bowl (sugar, coconut sugar, flour, protein powder, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt).
In a separate bowl combine the wet ingredients (pumpkin puree, yogurt, and vanilla) until smooth consistent mixture.
Slowly and steadily fold in the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients, or mix in a standing kitchen mixter (start with the wet ingredients and add the dry slowly) with the batter attachment on a low setting until both dry and wet ingredients are fully incorportated.
OPTIONAL: Fold in most of the chocolate chips, set some aside to sprinkle a top later. Feel free to add more chocolate chips to your preference just know the macro profile and calories will change accordingly.
Pour batter into prepared cake pan. Use a spatula to spread the batter across evenly and make sure none of the good stuff is left behind in the bowl (unless you have a kitchen gremlin who likes to lick the bowl and spoon since this is a safe batter to ingest).
If desired, sprinkle the set aside chocolate chips across the surface of the batter. Bake for 25-30min depending on your oven type time may vary. Toothpick test insert should have a few crumbs sticking to it, but should not be wet or indicate liquid inside. Allow the dessert to cool for an hour before cutting and serving. My personal favorite is to bake this a day prior and serve the second day for ultimate chocolate goodness.
